It’s finally here! The spookiest and most magical night of the year has arrived—Halloween 2024! We can barely contain our excitement as we step into the eerie, enchanting realm of October 31st, a night where shadows come alive and ghouls and goblins rule the darkness.
Halloween, the bewitching night when autumn’s crisp chill dances with mystery, is not just a holiday for us—it’s a state of mind. We, The Smashed Potatoes, have been eagerly counting down to this night, when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest, and the world transforms into a playground of thrills, chills, and haunting delights!
Why do we love Halloween so much? Well, it’s not just about the costumes or the candy (though those are awesome, too!). It’s a night where the ordinary fades, replaced by an extraordinary mix of fright and fun. It’s the one night where the strange and supernatural are celebrated with open arms. And, of course, there’s no better way to embrace the spooky spirit than through the magic of movies!
A Glimpse into Halloween’s Origins
First, a touch of history! Did you know? Halloween's roots go back centuries, tracing to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain! This mystical celebration marked the end of the harvest season and the start of winter—a time when the boundary between the living and the spirit world blurred. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off wandering ghosts, inviting both fright and fun into the night. As centuries passed, this ancient festival blended with Roman traditions and later transformed into the Halloween we know and love today. Halloween Night Essentials
Now that the witching hour is upon us, we are ready to dig into our new and improved Boooooooterie board! This year, we’ve added some extra snacks but as always we like to keep things simple and easy! We’ve got a great lineup of eerie movies to send shivers down our spines, but let’s not forget—Halloween isn’t just about the scares. It’s all about good company, good food, and yes, lots and lots of candy!
As we said before we like to keep things fun, and simple! Pigs in a Blanket, pretzel bites with a mustard and cheese sauce, dino nuggets and Little Ceasar’s crazy puffs, and last but not least, a skull bowl full of a variety of candy! This year, our haunted movie marathon kicks off tonight, but we’re extending it through the weekend for a multi-day horror fest. There are just too many films to fit into one night for us potatoes! But tonight, we’ll be starting with some of our favorite creepy classics. If you’re looking for movie inspiration, you’re in for a treat (no tricks here)!
