Happy Halloween 2023!!!

Halloween poster with spooky decorations and text 'Happy Halloween 2023', perfect for festive celebrations.

Happy Halloween!!! It is finally here!!! Let's embark on a magical journey into the spooktacular realm of Halloween, a celebration that enchants our souls and awakens our inner ghosts and ghouls!

Ah, Halloween, the bewitching night when the veil between the living and the departed grows thin, and the world is adorned in the hues of autumn and mystery! As the air turns crisp and the moonlight dances upon the leaves, we, The Smashed Potatoes, eagerly anticipate the arrival of All Hallows' Eve!

Why do we love Halloween, you ask? Well, it's not just a day, oh no…not to us! It's a portal into a world where the supernatural meets the ordinary, and where every shadow holds the promise of an eerie adventure.

Now that it is October 31st! We must prepare our cauldrons of creativity, brewing ideas for horror movie marathons, pumpkin carving, food, and candy! But Halloween is more than just great movies and candy; it's a celebration of the unknown, a time when the mysterious and the macabre are embraced with open arms and we love it! It's a night when stories of ghosts, monsters, and legends are told, and our favorite medium for that…is through the magic of film and T.V. (We do also love a good spooky book, but that is not what this blog is about!).

This year we got a jump on Halloween, and celebrated over the weekend! We personally think that Halloween should be a national holiday…and everyone should get the day off no matter what day of the week it lands on…but unfortunately this is not the case!

Our Charbooooooterie board!

Now, we will be watching Netflix’s Dracula when we can today as it is one of the stragglers that we have yet to get to, but the itinerary this year are the films that we were able to watch over this last weekend! Please do not feel that you need to try to watch all of these, it is a lot and we really out did ourselves this year! Not to mention, there is such a thing as too much horror. So please be gentle with yourself, and do what is best for you always!

You know what's as essential to Halloween as candy? Movie-themed drinking games! We love concocting new rules for our favorite spooky films. We've even crafted a universal horror movie drinking game that fits any creepy flick or TV show we throw on the screen. Grab your favorite drink of choice and get ready for a fun time!

The Horror Movie Drinking Game:

Take a sip anytime:

1.     Someone screams

2.     There's sexy time on screen

3.     You hear jarring or loud music

4.     The music goes silent

5.     There's a jump scare

6.     There's blood on screen

7.     There's gratuitous gore or dismemberment

8.     Something on screen grosses you out

9.     Someone dies

10.  There are any supernatural occurrences

11.  Any of the characters make blatantly stupid decisions

Bonus: Someone in your watch group jumps or is startled!

So, here's to Halloween! An absolutely favorite night of ours! A night where the ordinary fades away, and the extraordinary, odd and creepy takes center stage. May your costumes be frightful, your treats be sweet, your glass be full and your spirits be high as we revel in the enchantment of this magical night! Happy Halloween, fellow thrill-seekers! May your night be filled with chills, thrills, magic, candy, drinks and movies!

Have you seen any of these movies? Did you love them? Did you hate them!? Do you like this drinking game? Are there rules missing? Is the game too intense? Any and all thoughts are welcome! Let us know down in the comments and always remember to be safe and drink responsibly! (Drinks can be water, soda, anything nonalcoholic, etc. Please be safe, have fun and take care of you!)
